Many of the aspirants will be asking How to avoid distractions while preparing for UPSC Civil Services Exam to themselves. All aspirants will have some sort of distractions while preparing. Even though they do know what is their major problem for distraction they cannot get away from that.
How to avoid distractions while preparing for UPSC Civil Services Exam:
Familiar Problems that we aspirants will face are Family problems, Relationships, Chats, Mobile Games, Facebook. These are the popular reasons for distractions. Here I’m trying to give you some sort of solutions that many of the seniors who managed to clear UPSC CSE and who are yet trying to clear the UPSC CSE have shared. I may sound weird at some points. But believe me, it works.
Family Problems:
All aspirants would have this problem and the problem will be unique for each and everyone. So it is up to you to solve these problems. But be sure these problems are everlasting and you won’t have a springtime. There won’t be an ideal time where there are no family problems. So If possible come out of your home and be with some fellow aspirants so that your mind will be tuned to prepare for this exam 24/7.
Relationship/Friends:
Explain to your lover/ladylove about your difficulty in preparations and limit time with them by framing a time period.Ask them how would they feel if you clear this toughest exam. So that they have to make a temporary sacrifice. And for friends….. Simply ignore friends. We guys can’t explain them. they will keep on disturbing us. so no use on explaining them. just ignore them. after we clearing we could get them back. coz friends are friends. no matter we chat or not.
Mobile Addiction:
If you are searching for the mobile when you wake up or when you hold your mobile phone until sleep hits you hard, symptoms say that you are addicted to mobile. These problems appear to be easily rectified thing but techie guys and net savvy can’t get away from this very soon. Some of the aspirants will think to start a WhatsApp study group and so even while wasting time in WhatsApp they would get some knowledge, other some will start facebook groups and will be posting some modal question answers, collecting question answers, posting news, debating about popular news topics. These are all waste of time. debating in such a platform will not be very useful. If you want to have a healthy debating you can use insightsonindia.com, if you need a good study circle you could use forumias.com and if you need some facts you could read some basic textbooks. Remeber you are using technology for your studies in the above alternative method but in an effective way. Read our previous post on How to use technology effectively for civil service preparation. So avoid Facebook, WhatsApp groups. You can use that occasionally but not regularly. Sometimes we will open those distracting app and will forget everything around us. So we can’t stop using them. There is a solution for that problem. Use mobile only for a limited period of time. Be like 9.00 to 10:00 pm or only by afternoon. So after the usage switch off the mobile. If you can’t switch it off because you want to read some documents online and to use your mobile in the emergency or even to use your mobile as a dictionary then certainly there are some other ways. Appdetox is a popular Android app which will help you to get less addicted to such applications. I’m not marketing the product. I have tested several apps which assist us to get away from mobile addiction. Above all other apps, Appdetox is a very great product. You can assign the shielding effect for application based on its use. For example we may use WhatsApp often and will be distracted by the notification. So you can filter that by the number of launches. But while playing clash of clans/facebook we will be forgetting about the time so we can filter that by usage. So these are some methods used by senior civil service aspirants to avoid distractions while preparing for UPSC Civil Services Exam. Even If the Appdetox can’t save you no one can.
