How to prepare for Manithanaeyam Entrance Exam?

Exam pattern:

General Studies 60 Questions
CSAT 40 Questions
Total 100 Questions

Exam Time 2 hours. All 100 questions are MCQs. No Negative Marks. So attend all the questions.

Syllabus:

  1. Current Affairs
  2. Indian History (Ancient India, Medieval India and Modern India)
  3. Geography
  4. Indian Polity
  5. Economics
  6. Environmental Science
  7. Indian Culture
  8. Science and Technology (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)
  9. Logical Reasoning (CSAT)
  10. English Comprehension (CSAT)
  11. Quantitative Aptitude (CSAT)

First, 8 subjects are covered under General Studies 1 and Last 3 under CSAT. This is exactly the same syllabus for UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination.

Books to buy for Manidhaneyam Entrance Exam:

General Studies:

Manidhanaeyam IAS academy’s Notification suggests you to read Tata McGraw Hill – GENERAL STUDIES MANUAL.

But for UPSC Civil services exam Tata McGraw Hill’s (TMH) General Studies Manual is not highly recommended and only standard textbooks like NCERT, Indian Polity- Lakhsmikant, Indian Economy – Ramesh Singh, Goh Cheng Leong are suggested.

If you want to spend cautiously do not waste money on Tata Mcgraw Hill’s General Studies Manual. Instead, you can buy the books of the same publication that is Tata McGraw-Hill’s Indian Polity and Indian Economy.

So decide accordingly.

If you are ready for spending 500 bucks for exam preparation and that doesn’t really harm you much you can Buy Tata McGraw Hill General Studies Manual.

You can ask me How come you support TMH at some point and are against TMH and thereby you are confusing us.

The reason is very simple. Everyone is under a different scenario. So you have to decide for you. I would mention both pros and cons. You have to decide it.

Why TMH General Studies Manual?

  • Buying Tata McGraw Hill(TMH) is suggested for fast preparation. whereas NCERT needs more time to read and consolidate
  • TMH has much factual information whereas NCERT doesn’t contain all the factual information
  • TMH is a single book and an easy buy but you have to buy many subject NCERT books.

Why NCERT, TMH Indian Polity?

  • You have much time for preparation.
  • You are highly focused on concepts than on facts.
  • Go for NCERT if you need a strong understanding on basics whereas you won’t get any basics when reading Tata McGraw Hill.
  • You are preparing for UPSC Prelims and not for Manidhaneyam Entrance Exam. (Which I recommend you often)

What are all the NCERT Books? I will list it.

If you are reading this in your college days or in School Days

First strategy on How to prepare for Manithanaeyam Entrance Exam is don’t prepare for Manidhanaeyam entrance exam but prepare for UPSC Preliminary exam. Don’t limit yourself for the manidhanaeyam entrance exam. If you are preparing for UPSC prelims you will surely clear this exam.

Current Affairs:

There will be current affairs question. For current affairs read the newspaper for the month of January to April 2019(For 2019 Entrance Exam). If you haven’t read newspapers read Vision IAS or GKtoday current affairs compilation.

History:

Next for History read Modern India, Ancient India NCERT books (old NCERT). Read important chapters like Jainism, Buddhism, Ashoka, Newspapers run by our National Leaders, Religious and social reform etc.

Geography:

Buy A Certificate course in geography –  Goh Che Leung or read Physical Geography +1 NCERT textbook for Geography.

Science and Tech:

For Science read 10th Science book and Technology page published in The Hindu Newspaper.

Economics:

Economics will be a brand new subject for many of us from the science background. So you can’t read any standard books. Mastering basics is very important for economics so read ‘Indian Economy Key Concepts – Shankar Ganesh’. This book is written by an IRS officer.

Polity

Read important chapters like Fundamental rights, Fundamental Duties, Directive Principles of State Policy, Parliament, Supreme Court in ‘Indian Polity – Lakshmikanth‘. Download all NCERT e-books for free of cost from this Download link. You can also Download Old NCERT books which are highly recommended for UPSC Prelims.

CSAT:

The announcement uploaded by Manidhanaeyam IAS academy suggests no books for Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. but Manidhanaeyam had allotted 40% of the marks for CSAT in 2013, 2014 entrance exams. But this year UPSC have made CSAT as qualifying paper. So they may decrease the weightage given to CSAT. But there will be questions from CSAT. You have to prepare for CSAT at least to get 33% of marks in UPSC Prelims.  If you are good in Quantitative Aptitude and Logical reasoning focus only on General Studies and Just Skip this Topic. But if you are weak in Aptitude and reasoning give some look over CSAT.  R.S. Aggarwal books are more than enough for CSAT Ques.
1) Quantitative Aptitude – R.S. Aggarwal
2) Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning – R.S. Aggarwal

Quick view of Book list to Buy:
Tata McGraw Hill – GENERAL STUDIES MANUAL 2015
A Certificate course in geography –  Goh Che Leung
Indian Polity – Lakshmikanth

Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning – R.S. Aggarwal Click Here

P.S: You may think why am I suggesting all Civil Services Books instead of just books recommended for Manidhaneyam Entrance exam? The reason is that Manidhaneyam IAS Academy entrance exam is very easy to clear and doesn’t much preparation at all Instead start preparing for UPSC Civil Services exam right from now.
