UPSC conducts Civil Services examination every year. It will be a two tier examination. Tier I – Prelims and Tier II – Mains. Prelims examination of Civil Services and Forest service will be conducted combined. Whatever exam may be knowing syllabus is a vital part of the preparation. Official UPSC Prelims syllabus can be seen in the notification for Civil Services Examination and Indian Forest Service Examination.
As We know there are two papers in Prelims.
I. General Studies Paper I Syllabus:
1. Current events of national and international importance
2. History of India and Indian national movement
3. Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world
4. Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, Panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
5. Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc.
6. General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change (that do not require subject specialization)
7. General science.
II. CSAT Syllabus:
1. Comprehension
2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills
3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability
4. Decision making and problem solving
5. General mental ability
6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.) (Class X level), Data Interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level)
7. English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).
8. Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level. (will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation)
General Studies (Paper I) has 2 hour time to attend 100 Questions. Each carries 2 marks and 1/4 negative mark for a wrong answer.
CSAT (Paper II) has 2 hour time to attend 80 Questions. Each carries 2.5 marks and 1/3 negative mark for a wrong answer. But Decision making and Problem solving section don’t have negative marking.
CSAT paper is just a qualifying paper and will not count for cut off. Only if a candidate scores more than 33% in CSAT, his General Studies answers will be evaluated which will determine your selection for mains examination.
