Manidhanaeyam Gives free coaching centre to all civil service aspirants.
Manidhaneyam IAS academy expected some basic qualifications for civil service aspirants to get free coaching in their coaching centre. So they conducted entrance exam which is contains very basic questions. You should give a look at the previous year manidhaneyam question papers. the questions will be from current affairs, basic numeracy, basics of Indian Polity, economy, geography, history and science. From 2015 they have cancelled the entrance exam and announced free classes to all aspirants. So it had became very easy to join in manidhaneyam IAS academy. Just register and you will get enrolled. That does not mean they expect no basic reading from us.
Please don’t expect that joining Manidhaneyam IAS academy will change your life upside down. Any institute cannot do that. They will just teach us and it is our part to read and learn. So start your work before joining Manidhaneyam. Practically it is not necessary for us to learn something before joining Manidhaneyam but if you want to clear UPSC prelims in an attempt you have to start preparation on your own. You may think that you don’t have anyone to guide you. Manidhaneyam or any paid coaching centres can’t guide you more than websites like mrunal, insightsonindia, forumias. You have to use classes in Manidhaneyam in your way. You have to have a plan and use those classes. They should not guide you on when to start a subject and when to finish a subject, because they are very poor in that. It won’t be like a school or Engineering college which will spoon feed you. It will be like The American College which wants you to be self-moderated. So the answer for a question “should we have to start preparation before joining Manidhaneyam?” is YES, You have to.
If you are a college going student I have already written a post for you read that and start preparing using that strategy. I have suggested college students because they have to concentrate both on college and UPSC preparation. I’m assuming others who are reading has full time to prepare for UPSC Civil Service Exam.
These are the three factors you should focus with ” 1) News 2) NCERT Books 3) Text Books.
1) News:
You can gather news from any source like News channels, Newspapers, News websites. But I always ask you to rely on newspapers considering our eyes, diversions toward social networking websites and Content. Prefer The Hindu newspaper. The second choice may be Times of India. Many of the seniors and top rankers ask us to avoid competitive exam magazines which are not sufficient enough to give us concepts. Rather it will only provide us facts. But you can read magazines like outlook which will be having useful essays and news analysis.
2) NCERT Books:
You should have to read 8th to 10th textbooks of History, Geography, Science. Even Samacheer kalvi book is enough for starting level of preparations. But you have to read these textbooks. If you are lower than average in school level preparation you can read textbooks from 6th to 10th. For +1 and +2 books some selected books have to be read. If you are in a district other than Chennai you may find it difficult to buy NCERT books. Even Flipkart, Amazon won’t sell those books so you can download NCERT books from our website.
3) Text Books:
Reading Textbooks especially prepared for Civil Service Exam is must before joining. The important Textbooks are mentioned in the post: Booklist to buy for Civil Service Exam Preparation.
Some may bother about the optional subject. Some may be sure that I’m going to choose geography because my cousin asked me to select geography to score well. Some may be like Public administration is what we need after clearing UPSC so I will choose Pub ad. Please don’t choose optional subjects in this way. You have to spend at least one week to choose optional subjects. Don’t be hurry in choosing the optional subject. It does not need an Empirical method or Normative method but It has to be chosen with both of these combined. Select optional subject after joining in Manidhaneyam or after reading all basic concepts in all subjects. so that you may find in which you are good at and on which you have a passion for.
Have a goal. Divide it as long-term goal, weekly goal and daily goal. prepare a day planner and read books. Divide portions as chapters or as pages and complete it. It is not necessary to study only one subject for a day or for a week. Read what you like and don’t feel for switching from one subject to another subject. Don’t copy any aspirant’s studying method. Each aspirants will be unique in their capacity, concentration, passion. Follow your own method. All The best.

If will be useful. You can choose MA Pub ad. It will be helpful for your Optional paper. But before joining consider these things mentioned below.
1)Decide whether you have to opt for the regular course or correspondence course.
2)If you want to do it in a regular course prefer some very good colleges like DU, JNU etc.
3)If you want to do it in correspondence, compare UPSC Optional paper syllabus with the syllabus of the concerned course in concerned college. For eg, if you want to choose political science then you can compare the syllabus of UPSC optional pol sci syllabus with MKU MA Pol sci syllabus which will be an exact match. so find such college or university. (If you opt for correspondence)
